This session will be facilitated by our internist, Dr. Jeff Kerrie. According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases take the lives of approx. 17.7 million people each year. Fortunately, there are many modifiable risk factors that can help reduce the risk and progression of these diseases. In this session we will discuss the physiology of the heart, explain how coronary artery disease develops, and review treatment options for this condition as well as ways to prevent its onset.

Description:

In this special topic, motivational speaker Lynda Montis will first look at the Blue Zones Power Nine with an in depth explanation of the first four principles. We will discuss the following regarding movement: busting the myths about exercise, how movement is powerful medicine for depression, anxiety and loneliness, 8 inspiring reasons to walk more, and are "exercise snacks" part of the solution? We will explore and review guidelines from the "healthiest diet in the world" with specific regional foods and their benefits. We will review foods to strengthen your microbiome and improve your gut health to invigorate your digestion, optimize your immune function, lower your cholesterol, improve insulin sensitivity, and enhance brain function and brighten your mood. We will learn how simple, small changes can boost your health immediately, improve your energy and lengthen your health span. And finally, what is the key component necessary to assist you in both initiating and sustaining positive changes in your life.

Lynda is an internationally recognized motivational speaker and entrepreneur. She draws on her formal training as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with a specialty in weight management, her experience as a certified yoga, Pilates and barre instructor, as well as her personal experience losing and maintaining the loss of 42% of her total body weight. Lynda has struggled with weight issues since childhood and after 4 pregnancies decided to dedicate her time and education to the study of nutrition, obesity and movement. She opened a Yoga and Wellness Centre in Richmond Hill, Ontario and began teaching and leading numerous workshops in both movement and weight loss through lifestyle changes including presenting at the Annual Canadian Holistic Nutrition Conference. Lynda is passionate to share numerous tips on ways to increase motivation and willpower as well as how to make changes to destructive habits and personal food environment. She is also looking forward to sharing her current interest in the study of the longest lived cultures of the world and their lessons for us to age with mobility, vibrancy & joy.
