With summer comes many foods that involve marinades, dressings, dips, or other condiments that can contain a lot of sugar and be a source of empty calories. In this session we will be looking at healthier alternatives that are tasty but not energy dense.
This special topic will be facilitated by our internist, Dr. Jacek Cieslak, who has a specialty in nephrology. In the session we will explore the relationship between obesity, diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. Key strategies and tips on how to protect your kidneys will be discussed. We will introduce you to the MWM Structured Meal Plan that we offer for those patients who wish to try it. Research has shown that some modest weight loss at the beginning of a weight management program can be motivational and help build confidence. This diet is meant to be followed for about 3 to 6 months and in the meantime, patients are coming to the group medical visits and are working on the long-term, dietary changes that they can sustain and enjoy.

Managing one's cholesterol plays an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular conditions. In this session, we explain what your cholesterol values mean for optimizing health. We will discuss how your food choices affect your cholesterol (or not) and learn about the benefits and risks of drug therapy.
