In this 60 min group medical visit, our internal medicine specialist, Dr. Sylvie Galindo, will discuss Metabolic Syndrome and answer participant questions regarding this topic. Participants will be prompted to fill out a form during registration so they can submit questions and desired discussion points for the physician in advance.

This group will be facilitated by our registered dietitian, Veronica Kacinik.

About The Speaker: Veronica is passionate about helping people develop a healthy food-body-mind relationship. She has worked in the field of obesity medicine since 2011 and holds a Level 1 & 2 Certificate in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as a Certification in Principles and Practice of Interdisciplinary Obesity Management from the Canadian Obesity Network & Dietitians of Canada. When it comes to weight management, navigating the overwhelming amount of nutrition information can seem daunting. In this session we will discuss several diets used for weight control, explain key dietary principles of obesity management, and provide tips to help you find your best diet.



[6:45pm] Special Topic: Consequences of Untreated Sleep Apnea
Description:

Obstructive sleep apnea is a common weight-related co-morbidity. Not only can having excess weight put you at greater risk of developing this condition, but having untreated sleep apnea can increase the likelihood of weight gain/difficulty losing weight, among other health consequences. In this session, we will explore what sleep apnea is as a condition, how it is diagnosed, and why it is important to proactively treat it.
