This is a special topic group facilitated by the medical director, Dr. Michael Lyon. Understanding how our body expends and stores energy is a critical aspect of weight management. In this session we will identify behaviors that can cause a “sluggish” metabolism, discuss the physiological and external factors that impact metabolic reactions in the body, and introduce ways to cultivate a healthy metabolism.
This is the first session of the 4-week Getting Active 101 module. Registering for Session 1 will secure you a spot for the rest of the module.
This course is designed to provide patients with the knowledge and resources they need to help increase their physical activity. Participants will review and discuss common barriers to physical activity, set weekly goals around movement, and learn more about the health benefits and guidelines for specific types of exercise. Community resources (I.e. parks, trails, activity classes, community centers) will be discussed, as well as self-management programs for conditions that impede mobility.
For people who are interested in learning more and want to work towards bariatric surgery. It is strongly recommended that participants complete the Medication and Surgical Interventions for Weight Management session as a prerequisite before enrolling in this module.
Finding hope and serenity in troubled times. Facilitated by Dr. Michael Lyon.
This module is for registered participants only. If you have successfully registered for Session 1, your spot is secured for the rest of the module. You do not need to register for this session unless you need to update us on your medical conditions or you are making up a missed session.
When it comes to cultivating a healthy diet, incorporating a variety of vegetables can often seem intimidating, especially for those who are unfamiliar with how to cook them or tend to be picky eaters. In this group, we will showcase different techniques on how to prepare tasty vegetable dishes, provide the opportunity to sample some recipes, and review the nutritional benefits associated with different types of vegetables.
